Laurin Johnson, Director

My name is Laurin, and I am so excited to be your director at Children’s Cottage. I come to this role with three years experience in early care, education, and administration. I strive to build strong relationships with each and every one of you and be a familiar face to support you at any time. I am a mother of three with a desire to make every child in our program feel safe, seen, and thrive. I am excited for this journey and to watch your children grow and develop at Children's Cottage.

Miss Rachel, Assistant Director

Hi there, my name is Ms. Rachel, and I am the Assistant Director as well as the lead infant teacher of the Honey Bees classroom. I have been teaching at Children’s Cottage since the beginning of 2023 and have served as Assistant Director since the middle of 2024. I have several years of experience in the early childhood education field, along with a Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education. I have always had a love for children and for teaching, and I hope all of our parents and students will feel that. Whether it’s the first steps, first words, or the first time they recognize their name, at Children’s Cottage, we hope to pave the way for it all. If we haven’t already met, I can’t wait until we do!

Ray Welch, Owner

My name is Ray Welch, and my wife Mary & I are the owners of Children's Cottage. While enrolled at the University of Connecticut, I took a course in Children’s Literature and became interested in the early care and education of young children. I became a Teacher's Assistant for the class and had the opportunity to meet P. L. Travers, the author of the Mary Poppins books. I was inspired! I moved to California and got married. My wife Mary and I had un-diagnosed twin girls who were born at home! This was followed by a son born at home 3 years later. In 1993, Mary and I started Children's Cottage Child Care in Napa. In 2019 I was a delegate to the World Forum on Early Childhood Education. Over 70 countries attended this global event in Macau, China.
